LESSON 31 SHORTHAND GREGG - TRADUCCION DE CARTAS LECCION 31 TAQUIGRAFIA EN INGLES

LESSON 31

287. Dear Ms. Samuels: The regular company or government lethead serves satisfactorily, of course, for most of an executive’s correspondence. But it should never be used for correspondence of a social nature, such as letters of sympathy and goodwill. Correspondence of this type, we feel, calls for a personal executive letterhead that is friendly and that actually reflects the executive’s individual character. It calls, in short, Johnson stationery.

Johnson is recognized throughout the world as the leading manufacturer of executive letterheads. In the enclosed folder, Ms. Samuels, you will find samples in miniature of our executive letterheads. Examine them objectively and critically. Then select the one which appeals to you most, and place your order for a quantity on the blank that is included in the folder.

You can use the enclosed envelope to send your order to us. very truly yours

288 Gentlemen: It gives me great pleasure to be a character reference for Mr. Max O'Brien who, I understand, is applying for an executive position with the State Department of the federal government.

Mr. O’Brien was chief correspondent with the Century Motion Picture Company for some time. Throughout the years he was with us, he never objected to taking over difficult and challenging ventures. We were often amazed at the quantity of work he was able to handle in his department.

Mr. O’Brien resigned, as I recall, in 1978 to take a responsible position with the National Insurance Company, of which he eventually became a vice president.

I think that Mr. O’Brien could have a great future ahead of him working for the government. I am glad, therefore, to recommend him without reservation. Sincerely yours.

289 Dear Mrs. Quinn: The National Bank and Trust Company first opened its doors to the public in 1785. We had offices on what is now Fifth Street in Philadelphia. Our correspondence files revealed that National granted the government the first loan it ever obtained. It was for slightly more than $200,000.

Since that time we have seen our gross national product gradually grow to its present size, and through the years our primary objective has been to grow along with it. Our successful progress, though, has not been achieved at the expense of the friendly character of our bank. We have never confused size with excellence. Mrs. Ouinn.

The future of our bank, I am happy to say, looks very bright. Unless something happens to our economy, we expect to enjoy another satisfactory year.

If you have any questions about our business operations, do not hesitate to write to us. Very truly yours,

290 Mr. Worth: This morning I learned that the stock of the third edition of our publication, The Correspondest’s Manual, will shortly be exhausted. I estimate that we are down to 3,000 copies. This quantity will, in my opinion, last us only through October. The book has been selling extraordinarily well since we published it last year, thanks to the good work of the advertising department.

May I request, therefore, that you manufacture another 20,000 copies immediately. We know from experience that it usually takes several months to print that quantity.

I would appreciate it, Mr. Worth, if you would acknowledge this request as soon as you receive it. A. B. James.

291 Ms. López: The president of the National Newspaper Editors Association told me yesterday afternoon that you would soon be asked to speak at their next general meeting on a subject of your choice. The meeting will probably be held in December.

I wish you would accept this particular assignment, Ms. López. I regard it as a fine opportunity for you to give that organization some idea of the problems we face in the advertising industry.

Please let me know when you receive the invitation. Allen H. West.

292 Dear Mr. Strong: Yesterday afternoon I sent you 45 copies of our sales- training manual. Please accept them, Mr. Strong, with our compliments.

This manual, written by a well known sales executive, has been used throughout our selling organization with great success.

A revision of this manual is scheduled to come off the press shortly. I will send you a quantity as soon as I receive copies.

I hope that you will never hesitate to let us know when our organization can be of assistance to you at some future time. SIncerely yours,
